Season 1 Summary

Season 1 spans over a period of several months spread across varied seasons. All the action begins in the united Seven Kingdoms of Westeros as the prolonged summer ends and winter is just round the corner. Lord Eddard Stark is offered the position of the Hand of the King by his old friend King Robert Baratheon, as a replacement for the previous Hand Jon Arryn, who died under mysterious circumstances. Jon was Eddard’s mentor and was fostered by him. In the meantime on the eastern continent of Essos, the exiled Targaryen heir to the Iron Throne, Viserys is planning to retake the throne that had been seized from his father by Robert Baratheon. So as to gain help from Khal Drogo, the master of 40,000 Dothraki warriors, Viserys Targaryen gets his sister Daenerys married off to him.

Meanwhile, on the northern-most border the sworn brothers of the Night’s Watch are guarding the Wall, which is a 300-mile-long colossal fortification comprising of ice. It has stood for a thousand years and is under threat from the invasion of the wildlings that live beyond, however the air is full of rumors regarding a new upcoming threat.
