The Last Time We Saw The Tullys…

Spread the love

We just entered the month of March and HBO has started ramping the marketing for most awaited Season 6. On Monday itself, the behind the scenes footage is released for Season 6 and it clearly looks like the Siege of Riverrun is going to play an important role this year. Everyone is pretty excited after checking out the House Lannister, House Stark, House Tyrell and House Greyjoy and now it’s time to check out the House Tully. But this is just a glance of these House’s and for more all we can do is to wait till 24th April.

House Tully

The last time we witnessed the House Tully together in Game of Thrones, they were not at their ancestral home of Riverrun but at the Twins, the House Frey’s seat of power. Many of them were brutally murdered, kidnapped and disappeared at the infamous Red Wedding and the once mighty lords are now no more alive.

Robert Baratheon called his banners and to war against Aerys Targaryen in the War of the Usurper. Eddard Stark, his beloved friend also called his banners and marched down from the Neck to the Riverrun with the Northern army. He also marries Catelyn Tully there which solidifies the alliance between both the Houses. It is very sad to say that the marriage leads to demises of their children, friends and loyal bannermen.

Just in the Game of Thrones season 3, Robb Stark’s Northern army took a halt in Riverrun, his mother’s childhood home. There, we were get to know about the dead Lord Hoster Tully, who was the Lord Paramount of the Riverlands for years.

We also had seen Brynden “The Blackfish” Tully, Lord Hoster’s leaden younger brother and Catelyn’s uncle. We also had seen Edmure Tully, Catelyn’s younger brother. As Robb followed his heart and decided to break the marriage pact made with Lord Walder Frey, he and other members of House Tully were forcefully asked to move out. So the went to the Twins and asked to marry Edmure to one of the daughters of Lord Frey in Robb’s place. They were innocent because they didn’t understand that they were falling in the trap of Frey/Lannister/Bolton.

After Edmure and his new bride go for the bedding ceremony, Catelyn and the Northerners are brutally murdered only Blackfish was saved as he didn’t came to attend the wedding. Brynden escaped to the Riverrun and closed the gates. Edmure remains the captive of Freys.

Brynden Tully

Another Tully who survived was Lysa Arryn, Daughter of Hoster. Lysa was married to Jon Arryn and this meant that Houses of Stark, Tully and Arryn were all united by the marriage. Lysa did not want to marry Jon as she was more interested in Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish but Baelish was too lowborn and Petyr liked someone else. The last time we witnessed Lysa was at the time when she was falling from the Moondoor of the Eyrie.

Let’s check out the reasons, why House Tully stands ahead in the Game of Thrones season 6:

  • Brynden Tully sieged the Riverrun.
  • Edmure Tully is the captive of Freys and if the book is followed, he will be marching towards a gibbet and strung up in front of the Riverrun just to scare Brynden.
  • Hoster Tully, Lysa Arryn and Catelyn Stark are no more alive.

There is a character that is not seen from season 1 and i.e. Nymeria, Arya’s direwolf. Could Nymeria come back in the Season 6? And if she comes back will it affect the Freys or Lannister’s? For revelations we have to wait till 24th April. Stay tuned.
