In the show’s five season history, for the first time the HBO series took home the best drama series award. The series pocketed a record-breaking 12 awards, the most any series has managed to win at one time. “West Wings” in 2000 Emmys was holding the record for 9 Emmy awards.

Peter Dinklage who plays Tyrion Lannister in the HBO series won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. This is his second award in the category, the first being in 2011 for the same show.

The show also won the Outstanding Direction for a Drama Series award, given out to David Nutter for his work on “Mother’s Mercy”- the tenth and concluding episode of the 5th season of the show.

D.B. Weiss and David Benioff won the Outstanding Writing award for a Drama Series, and the show’s co-executive producer George R.R. Martin, who was also present at the award function, was all smiles on his special day.

The win was a feather in the cap for HBO, which won a total of 43 Emmys, more than any other network and it turned out to be a huge night for the popular network.

Since its debut in 2011, the show has racked up a very impressive number of Emmy Awards but now in 2015 it has managed to conquer the stage and establish itself in the Primetime winner’s circle. Uptil last year “Game of Thrones” was being awarded for creative-arts categories since its first season. As a matter of fact it would be folly for any “Game of Thrones” fan to overlook the work of technicians and artisans that labor behind the scenes of the fantasy epic, but the series has finally stepped out from behind the curtain into the awards- season spotlight.

The show made a stellar performance and pocketed an impressive 24 nominations and gathered steam with 8 wins at the Creative Arts Emmys the week before. The success can be attributed to Season 5’s suspenseful finale that left an everlasting impact on the viewer’s minds as is evident from the results of the awards.

The question now is what kingdom can the show possibly conquer next? Expectations run high for the upcoming season 6 and we wish the show luck in standing up to the audience’s expectations, while everyone is looking forward to its commencement!
