As they are keeping a watch to attack, Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly climb on the top of the Wall, and discuss about Jon’s affair with Ygritte when he was there with the wildlings. At a nearby camp, Thenn Warg climbs to the Wall with then help of an owl but Ygritte tell everybody that Jon will be killed by her and no one will try to murder him. Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 9 Review and Plot - The Watchers on the Wall

Who was recently separated from Ygritte at the Mole’s Town attack. Their meeting was cut short by the hooting of the horns telling everyone that Mance Rayder and his army has arrived. Jon was just standing when he noticed the north side of wall, where a big flame of fire was clearly visible and he and his brothers is done in preparing for the battle. Sam fortunately finds Gilly and their baby hiding in the kitchen. He feels relieved, and leaves to help in the defence after kissing her and said good-bye.

Ygritte scouted her entire army till the gates of Castle Black. She tells her that there is no one at the gates and so Styr orders his men to attack. So Ser Alliser ushers his archers to attack but at the same time he listen another hoot of horn which was a clear sign that the Castle has been attacked from both the sides. Ser Alliser leaves the Wall to Janos Slynt and leaves to the Castle to fight with Thenns. On the top of the Wall, Janos Slynt was not up to the mark as a commander, so Grenn tricks him down to go on the ground and kept Jon in charge. Many giants and woolly mammoth try to devastate the gate so Jon asks Grenn to take five men with him to save the passage.

Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 9 Summary (Synopsis)- The Watchers on the Wall

At the Castle, Tormund Giantsbane severely injures Ser Alliser so he is taken to be treated. Sam and Pyp kill wildlings with crossbows but Pyp is killed by Ygritte. She shots him in the neck and he dies in the arms of Jon. Sam then climbs the Wall, killing Thenn Warg while running through the courtyard. After reaching on the top of the Wall, he informs him about the happenings of courtyard, and Jon leaves charge of the Wall to Edd.

Returning back to the south of the Castle Black, Jon becomes the leader of the remaining Night’s Watch brothers, with his own direwolf, Ghost. Jon fights with Styr, and after a very serious beating, succeeds in killing Thenn. Ygritte comes in front for him but hesitates to kill him with her arrow. She took a very long time and this gives a chance to Olly to kill her by shooting at her back. In the Arms of Jon Snow, Ygritte dies but a very painful death. At the top of the Wall, Edd shows bravery and the wildlings seem to withdraw. Tormund who was seriously injured with lots of arrows hitting him in seized on Jon’s orders.

Jon urges Sam that he wants to go north to kill Mance Rayder in the morning. As they pass through the avenue, they notice that Grenn and his army died while killing a giant and Jon asks Sam to burn their bodies with all rituals. Jon gives Longclaw, his sword to Sam before going from the avenue.

Samwell Tarly and Maester Aemon talk about Gilly and Ygritte who were separated when Mole’s Town was attacked. Samwell Tarly at last find Gilly and their baby who were hiding in the kitchen. He felt relieved and after kissing her says her good-bye and went to help at the defence. Castle Black is attacked from both the sides and Ser Alliser, Jon, Sam, Edd, Thenn Grenn tries very hard to save it. They save the castle from the invasion. Ygritte is killed by Olly and she dies in the arms of Jon. Tormund is seized after he was seriously injured. Jon gives his sword, Longclaw to Samwell Tarly and leaves the avenue.
