Game of Thrones Season 3 Episode 9 Review & Plot- The Rain Of Castamere

Sam and Gilly who are now in the North of the Wall, continues their journey towards the south. Sam informs Gilly that he has a strategy to cross The Wall using the entryway at the Nightfort, an unused castle along the Wall.

Game of Thrones Season 3 Episode 9 Summary (Synopsis) - The Rain Of Castamere

In the South of the Wall, Bran and his group of people took refuge in an unused mill. While Jon and his wildlings notice a house. Later they come to know that it is an elderly horse breeder’s house. So they capture him and seize all his horses and gold but left the man and the man flees from there. While in the unused mill where they took refuge, Bran and Jojen Reed were strategizing how to cross the Wall, when Meera astonishingly notice the horse breeder riding his horse near the mill. But the old man is captured by the wildlings. By seeing a loud thunder, Hodor starts bawling, which scares them because it might give away their location to other wildlings. So Bran with his warg abilities controls Hodor’s mind and stops her from yelling.

Afterwards when Tormund tries to kill the captured old man, Orell stops him and ask Jon to kill that man to prove his loyalty towards them. Jon couldn’t kill him instead Ygritte shoots him with an arrow. This proves them to whom Jon is loyal so Tormund urges his men to assassinate him but he manages to escape from there. As Ygritte tries to block him, he unintentionally knocks her down on the ground but Tormund holds her and saves her, which results in Orell fighting with Jon. Bran comes to Jon’s rescue with his direwolf.

Jon assassinates Orell while the wolves keep a total control other wildlings and due to this it becomes very easy for him to take a horse and escape from there, leaving Ygritte and starts marching towards the Wall again. After some time at night, Bran insists Osha to take Rickon to the home of Umber Family, Last Hearth. Osha agrees and leave after a short time.

At camp, Catelyn advises her son Robb, the King in the North about his strategic accord with Lord Walder Frey and his planned aggression on the Casterly Rock. Casterly Rock is the homeland of the Lannisters. The Stark with their whole group enters the Twins, the castle homeland of Freys, where they have been welcomed with bread and salt which are considered as the “guest right”: a guarantee of safety when they are under a different lord’s roof. Robb sarcastically regrets to Walder Frey and his two daughters. Walder regrets for his sin but asks them to scrutinize Queen Talisa for whom he broke his vow.

Meanwhile, Arya who is still a prisoner of Sandor Clegane starts marching towards the Twins to meet her mother and brother once again after a long time. When they see a trader and his cart, Sander tries to assassinate him but Arya warns him, and just steal the food cart.

At night, Walder takes his daughter, Roslin to Edmure Tully her future husband through the avenue who becomes mesmerised by her charm and beauty. Soon the celebration begins. The marriage ceremony commences. At the feast, Walder signals for the bedding ceremony and the couple is taken to their cubicle. After they went inside the cubicle, Lothar Frey closes the banquet doors. Catelyn starts apprehending and the Frey bards began playing “The Rains of Castamere” Lannister’s Cautionary song which adds to her apprehension. With the help of food cart Arya and The Hound try to enter the wedding but they were bared at the entrance but Arya somehow manages to go inside.

Catelyn notices something when she saw Roose Bolton. She saw a chainmail under Roose Balton’s robes which confirmed her apprehension that they are totally betrayed and something unusual is going to happen. And the suspicion turns right and Walder ushers his men top start slaughtering Starks’ men. Catelyn tries to alert Robb but it was too late that Lothar jabs Talisa in the womb, again and again, results in killing her. As he tries to bring out his sword to begin slaughtering he was shot by a lot of crossbows and the bloodshed of his bannerman starts.

Arya who came inside without anyone’s notice observes Frey man slaughtering Stark soldiers and Grey Wind, Robb’s direwolf. But fortunately before anyone saw her, Hound knocked her on head and took her out of the castle immediately. Catelyn who was seriously injured by one of the crossbow, was holding Walder’s young wife Joyeuse in her hands as a prisoner, thinking that he will let her go for his wife. But Walder refused to agree. From somewhere Roose Bolton jabs Robb in the heart, revealing the hidden essence behind Jaime’s context “The Lannisters send their Regards”.Watching this Catelyn howls very loudly in agony and stabs Joyeuse in return, and Frey’s son Black Wilder cuts Catelyn’s throat very efficiently.
