About Sansa Stark

Sansa Stark is among the most important in all the seasons of Game of Thrones. She is depicted by Sophie Turner. Sansa is the 1st daughter of Eddard and Lady Catelyn. She is the sister of Robb, Arya, Bran and Rickon. She is also the half sister of Jon Snow. She migrates to King’s Landing when her father is appointed as the Hand of the King to Robert Baratheon.

Things starts turning sour for her in King’s Landing, when she is asked to see her father executed in front of her by Joffrey for betrayal. Sansa is imprisoned by Lannisters during the resulting of War of the Five Kings, and was humiliated and brutally berated by Joffrey. While she is a prisoner, she unwillingly marries to Tyrion Lannister at the solicitation of her father as she is by now thought to be the last surviving Stark. In the wake, she is resolute from the city by Petyr Baelish. She adopts Alayne and presents as Lord Petyr’s niece only to hide her from the Lannisters. Her marriage to Ramsay Bolton unites her with Theon Greyjoy who is her childhood friend as well as her surrogate brother. Theon is a prisoner to the Boltons but eventually helps her in fleeing from Winterfell.

Biography of Sansa Stark

Sansa Stark is the elder most daughter and the second child of Catelyn and Eddard. Eddard is the arch of House Stark and Lord Paramount of the North. House Stark is the ruler of the region who rules form the Winterfell. Eddard holds the title of Lord of Winterfell and the Warden of the North.

Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones

Sansa was born and totally raised at Winterfell. She is the second child after Robb. She is followed by Bran, Rickon, Arya and half bastard Jon Snow. Sansa enjoys “lady-like” quest. She has a dream of being a regal Queen like Cersei Lannister. She inherits her mother, Tully’s coloring and most of the things her other siblings does not possess.

Sansa Stark In Season 1

When her brothers notice an orphaned brood of direwolf pups, Sansa adopts the most gentle of them and name her as Lady. King Robert Baratheon comes to meet Sansa’s father at Winterfell, he also offers to betrothe Joffrey to Sansa. Sansa at first feels overwhelmed with the handsome young prince. She asks her father to take them to capital and Eddard agrees to them.

At the Crossroads Inn, Joffrey asks Sansa to walk along the riverbank after meeting Ser Ilyn Payne. It was a very annoying experience. They find Arya practicing her sword skills with Mycah. Joffrey starts striking a girl just to show superiority. Arya strikes Joffrey and when he retaliates, Arya’s direwolf, Nymeria chew his arm. Arya and Mycah escapes and Joffrey sobs before Sansa snapping Sansa for help. Arya asks Sansa to tell the truth but she insists her that it might lead to a bitter relationship between her and Joffrey. Queen Cersei orders to execute Nymeria for harming Joffrey but when they become unsuccessful in finding her, she insists to execute Lady at her place. Eddard carries out the execution himself furiously after learning that Robert agreed to her.

Sansa Stark in Season 1

After reaching King’s Landing, Sansa’s acrimony towards Arya and Eddard continues. Eddard fails to mitigate Sansa by buying her a doll as she had not played with a doll since years. Eddard tells Arya that Sansa could not disregard Joffrey just to maintain his goodwill in marriage.

Septa Mordane takes and shows Sansa the throne room of Red Keep. Sansa realizes that the Mad King assassinated her grandfather and uncle. Sansa is threatened that she would not be able to to give son to Joffrey.

At the Hand’s tournament, Sansa notices Ser Gregor Clegane assassinating Ser Hugh of Vale, during a contest. Littlefinger tells Sansa how Gregor has blazed Sandor, his brother’s face, when they were very young.

Ser Loras Tyrell gives a flower to Sansa before his bout with Gregor. He gives the flower to Sansa but looks at Prince Renly who was sitting exactly behind her. She sees him defeating Gregor. She applauds to Sandor’s actions.

Sansa and Septa Mordane are busy in embroidering. Sansa starts speaking very rudely to her. Joffrey meets Sansa and gives her a present. He also purge her `for the incident of the Kingsroad and smooches her. Sansa is later told that father is sending Arya and her back to Winterfell and her espousal to Joffrey is to be broken. Sansa does not agrees to accept this and tells that she loves Joffrey, only she will be his queen and will give him adorable blonde haired children. He will become a great king and a golden lion. Arya accuses Joffrey that he isn’t a lion but a stag like King Robert, his father. Sansa strictly denies that he is like her father. Eddard notices that Joffrey and his siblings are not Robert’s children. Eddard tells both his girls that they are returning back to Winterfell after witnessing the behavior of Sansa. Robert dies in a hunting accident and so Eddard tries to unveil the truth about Joffrey but Littlefinger betray Eddard and all the guards are killed and he is arrested.

Eddard’s entourage is assassinated at the Red Keep by House Lannister guards. They were led by Sandor Clegane. Mordane moves to accost Lannister soldiers and tell Sansa to lock herself in the room. Sansa is brought in front of Cersei by Sandor. Cersei tells her that she will leave her father if and only if Robb Stark will bend his knees in front of Joffrey and prove his royalty. The letter is unsuccessful and instead Robb marches towards the Riverlands. Sansa again pleads for mercy but this time Joffrey asks him to accept his faults and agrees to Joffrey being the king. Sansa says that Eddard will surely do that.

At the trial, Eddard do what he is asked to but still Joffrey orders his execution that too in front of Sansa’s eyes. Sansa is also prevented from interfering between.

Sansa Stark in Season 1

After some days, Sansa is in court and witnesses as Joffrey orders the removal of tongue of Marillion, a singer who wrote a song which is unfavorable to the royal family. Joffrey then takes Sansa to the traitor’s avenue, where she notices the severed head of Septa Mordane and Eddard. Joffrey tells her that executing Eddard was like showing mercy as he gave him a quick and easy death and also tells her that he will be going to mount Robb’s head after defeating him. But Sansa tells him that may be Robb will mount Joffrey’s head instead. So Joffrey asks Ser Meryn Trant to hit her. Sansa tries to push Joffrey off the avenue but is stopped by Sandor.

Sansa Stark In Season 2

Sansa is still imprisoned in King’s Landing by Queen Regent Cersei Lannister. She has now learned to show loyalty to King Joffrey Baratheon to avoid further maltreatment. She also attends Joffrey’s name day tournament.

Sansa is forcefully asked to sit when the Lannisters are discussing about killing her brother Robb. She takes out all her frustration on Shae, her new handmaid. Robb wins in the Battle of Oxcross, so in reply to it Joffrey strips Sansa and berates her in front of the court. Tyrion Lannister interferes and asks her to end her engagement but she disagrees to him impressing the Imp just to prove her loyalty to Joffrey.

Sansa witnesses the departure of Myrcella for Dorne. As they are returning back to the Red Keep, Joffrey is struck by egesta by the furious crowd. Joffrey orders a city wide riot demanding all the people to kill. Sansa is separated from them and almost got raped by the commoners. She is protected and rescued by Sandor Clegane. Shae treats her as she is heavily injured and Sansa starts hating Joffrey more than before.

Sansa Stark and Cersei Lannister in Season 2

Sansa has a nightmare that someone is going to jab her. She finds her mattress bloodied by the onset of her first period. Shae tries to hide the evidence but The Hound catches them. He informs the Queen. Cersei gives advice to Sansa on motherhood, telling her that she will love her children even he does not love her husband.

Stannis Baratheon sails through the bay outside King’s Landing with his army. Sansa is taken to the throne room to bid adieu to Joffrey. He forcefully asks her to kiss his new sword, and she subtly undermines his bombast. She then takes refuge with Shae in Maegor’s Holdfast. Cersei is seen hosting the women of court. She tortures Sansa during the battle, crushing her faith and telling her that Ser Ilyn Payne is present to assassinate her if the walls are contravened and drunkenly telling her to use her sexuality and incest as a weapon. Sansa keeps trying to boost the morale of the women up when they almost lost the battle with prayers and singing. Shae asks Sansa to go back to her chambers to keep her safe if Stannis violates the law. Sansa notices Sandor waiting for her outside. He tells her that he is going to north and asks her whether she will accompany him. Stannis forces were at last defeated by the House Lannister and House Tyrell’s forces led by Tywin Lannister.

Sansa Stark in Season 2

Tywin is named Savior of the City and Hand of the King. Lord of Harrenhal title is given to Petyr Baelish and Loras Tyrell is allowed to name a favor. He asks Joffrey to marry Margaery, his sister. Joffrey asks Margaery that is this she wants when Cersei looks at Sansa circuitously. Joffrey tells that he will be honored to return her love but he has promised to Sansa. Sansa feels betrayed when Joffrey agrees to marry Margaery. Petyr crushes her hopes of freedom and admonishes that her situation has worsened as she is a prisoner now and not the queen of Joffrey. Petyr also tells her that she reminds him of his mother and he will surely aide her in returning home. She did not trusts him and maintains her semblance.

Sansa Stark In Season 3

Sansa and Shae are sitting on the docks watching the arriving and departing ships. Sansa wants Shae to play a game with her about where the ship came from or heading to but Shae is uninterested in playing. Baelish suddenly arrives there and tells Sansa about smuggling her out of King’s Landing. She is a bit hesitant about the idea.

Sansa confabulates about Littlefinger being in love with her, but Shae admonishes her that men only want “one thing” from ladies. Margaery and Olenna Tyrell ask her to come for lunch in the gardens, where they ask her about Joffrey. Sansa is initially seen very uncomfortable and threatened to speak about him but soon talks everything about him. Sansa very nervously tries to backtrack but Olenna tells her that they both will never betray her. Sansa also tells them that Joffrey is a monster. Margaery ask her to see the Highgarden, the Tyrell home with her. Sansa tells her that Cersei would never allow her to leave King’s Landing. Margaery also tells her that she could be wife of Loras Tyrell, her brother to which she seems overjoyed. Sansa and Margaery then go to see Loras fighting and she starts admiring him there. Loras and Sansa spends a lot of time together. Sansa is seen more enthusiastic about the wedding than him. He tells her that he wanted a big fat wedding and everything huge but only one bride. They find a common interest sharing the same kind of hatred towards King’s Landing.

Sansa Stark in Season 3

The plan to wed Sansa changes when Cersei turns suspicious about the Tyrells and Tywin arranges marriage of Loras to Cersei and Tyrion to Sansa. Tywin did this only to ledge the ambitions of House Tyrell and to bring two of the other great houses of the Seven Kingdoms close to each other to the Lannisters.

As she witnesses Littlefinger’s ship depart for the Vale of Arryn, Sansa is disturbed knowing that both of her chances to escape from King’s Landing has gone. And now she has only one option left that is to marry in the family who has killed her family. Margaery assuage her that Tyrion might make her happy, seeing his skill as a lover. Tyrion promises her that he will not misbehave with her.

The wedding itself becomes a very embarrassing affair when Joffrey very egoistically escorts Sansa to the altar. He also takes out the stool where Tyrion is going to stand and take out the veil of Sansa. Tyrion then drinks the whole night aggravating Sansa’s anger. Joffrey then follows Sansa and gibes her that she found some Lannister to marry and soon she will be a mother to a Lannister baby. Joffrey then calls that it’s time for the bedding ceremony and Sansa is seen in a state of horror. Tyrion tells that there will be no bedding ceremony but Joffrey flicks him, prompting Tyrion to loudly jab a dagger into the table and torment his nephew with altercation if he doesn’t let it drop. Joffrey seemed furious but Tywin diffuses the situation by just telling him that his uncle is too drunk.

Sansa Stark and Tyrion Lannister in Season 3

Tyrion realizes that Sansa is too much sad after marrying him and their marriage will not consummate unless she wants. Shae is very pleased to see that are clean after the wedding in morning clearly depicting that Sansa is still virgin. Tyrion and Sansa start knowing each other but their relationship receives a great blow when she hears about the assassination of her mother and brother at the Red Wedding.

Sansa Stark In Season 4

Sansa remains discouraged over the deaths of her mother and brother. Despite a lot of encouragement from Shae and Tyrion, she does not agree to eat. She tells Tyrion that she was awake the whole thinking about Catelyn and Robb’s death. Sansa excuses herself from the table, telling that she wants to go to the godswood and revealing that she does not want to pray but only wanted to live in isolation. While in the godswood, Jaime Lannister and Brienne stare at Sansa and later find out someone following her.

Her chaser corners her, turns out to be Dontos Hollard, whose life she had saved earlier. Dontos expresses his obligation to Sansa for speaking on his behalf while no one else would and asks her to gift a necklace that belonged to his mother. Sansa at first turns it down but afterwards take it from him.

Sansa goes to attend a breakfast arranged before the wedding of Joffrey and Margaery. There, Tywin Lannister gifts him a sword re-forged from Ice. Joffrey names it as Widow’s Wail, telling that every time he will look it he will remember the beheading of Ned Stark. Afterwards at the wedding, Olenna comes to Sansa to offer her commiseration over the Red wedding and invites her to see Highgarden.

Sansa Stark and Olenna Tyrell in Season 4

In between, Joffrey entertains himself with a funny “reenactment” of the War of the Five Kings with each of five kings played by dwarfs. When Tyrion makes a veiled reference to his nephew’s gutlessness, Joffrey pours wine over Tyrion’s head and orders him to be cupbearer to humiliate him more. Joffrey intentionally drops his goblet and then kicks it when Tyrion tries to pick it up. Sansa feels pity for Tyrion, so she picks up the goblet and hands it to him. At Sansa’s precept, she and Tyrion try to leave, but Joffrey calls him back asking him to bring the cup back. Tyrion obliges to him but unknowing to everyone, Olenna glissade some poison into Joffrey’s cup. Later, when Joffrey falls on the floor, Dontos asks her to evade the place with him. And she does what he says.

After the events at the Purple wedding, Sansa and Dontos reach to a boat and leave the city. Dontos take Sansa to a ship which is unknowingly turns out to be Petyr’s ship. Baelish kills Dontos and devastates Sansa’s necklace, she was wearing. Sansa screams that why he killed Dontos and he replies to her that he only worked for money and now she is safe.

Petyr sees Sansa in her cabin and Sansa comes to a conclusion that he had some role in Joffrey’s assassination. After he tries to disagree, he just tells her everything about the wedding. Sansa is seemed confused because of everything that the Lannisters had done for him and he says that he could do anything for what he wants. She asks him what he wants to which he replies everything.

Sansa and Petyr are passing through the Bloody Gate tells Sansa about the Eyrie and its defenses. Sansa uses the veil as Petyr’s niece so that no one should recognize her. When they arrive inside the main hall, Sansa greets Lysa Arryn as Alayne but she obstructs her by saying that she knew her and she should not call her ‘Aunt’ in front of everyone.

Lysa brings some lemon cakes for Sansa, and tells her that Petyr brought three crates of it from the capital. She then tells a story about Catelyn when she was young. She suddenly stops and Lysa turns antagonistic asking her whether she had sex with Petyr. Sansa dreads and tries to convince Lysa that she is still a virgin. Sansa starts crying when Lysa grabs her hand and squeezes and tells her that Petyr told her that she is a little girl, with little dreams and a big liar. Lysa puts a kind and polite expression on her face again and reassures her that after Tyrion is executed she can marry Robin, her cousin.

Sansa Stark and Lysa Arryn in Season 4

After properly settling in Eyrie, even though in discomfort, Sansa walks in the courtyard alone in the snow. Snow reminds of her home. She had a very short conversation with Robin, when she yells at him when he breaks the snow castle which she wanted as a replica of Winterfell, resulting in a heated argument. Petyr then meets her after some time and she asks him why he killed Joffrey to which he reply her that he did for Catelyn, the only woman he had ever loved. Sansa is terrified when he directly smooches on her lips, which is noticed by Lysa. She asks Sansa to meet her in the High Hall, where she seems standing over the open Moon Door. Sansa starts showing more concerned when Lysa talks to her. Lysa threatens her and try to push her from the Moon Door but Petyr saves her. Petyr tells Lysa that he only loved Catelyn and pushes her from the Moon Door.

Sansa is asked to testify before Lord Yohn Royce, Lady Waynwood and Ser Vance Corbray as “Alayne”. Sansa quickly tells them their original identity and tells them about how she escaped from King’s Landing. She then tells them the truth about Lysa mental inability, jealousy and death, just changing few minor details. Sansa intentionally break down and all the lords are convinced. Later, Baelish meets Sansa and asks why she lied to them to which she said that she does know what she wants irrespective of what Waynwood and Royce would want from her if Baelish is eliminated. Later, Sansa accompanies Petyr and Robin to the tour of Vale, with an appearance of darker reddish brown hairs and in feathered black dress with a plunging neckline.

Sansa Stark In Season 5

Sansa, still disguised as Alayne, attends a sword jousting session for Lord Robin at Runestone, accompanied by Littlefinger and Yohn Royce, sheer unimpressed by his weak swordsmanship. Sansa notify that Petyr receives a raven message. Soon they leave Robin with Lord Royce for further training. Sansa questions on the carriage ride as why they are heading to west when they told Lord Royce that they are heading to the Fingers. Petyr tells her that they are going far away where Sansa will be safe from Queen Cersei.

Sansa and Baelish stops at the inn for lunch while journeying, where she tries beer for the first time. Baelish does not answer her except saying “dark wings, dark words”. Soon, Brienne of Tarth comes in the scene and declares herself for Sansa. Baelish doubts that Sansa would want a sworn shield that let all her previous masters die, even when Brienne reveals the truth. Sansa agrees to Littlefinger notifying that Brienne was present at Joffrey’s wedding. Sansa refuses Brienne’s offer and witnesses as she very easily defends the guards and flees.

Sansa and Baelish enters the Moat Cailin, where Sansa came to know that they are actually going back to Winterfell and Baelish wanted to wed her to Roose Bolton’s son, Ramsay Bolton, the Warden of the North. Sansa initially refuses to marry one more time that betrayed her but Baelish tells her that it will be an opportunity for her to take the revenge. They reach Winterfell, where Baelish introduces her to all the Boltons. Roose and Ramsay greets her politely and after a short stare, eve she greets them with courtesy, but Myranda eyes Sansa with jealousy as she is the secret lover of Ramsay. While she was walking around, she abruptly passes Theon Greyjoy, her childhood friend, who hides his face from her.

Sansa Stark and Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish in Season 5

Trying to settle in Winterfell, Sansa meets the Stark family crypts, re lighting the consecrated candles and cleaning up the offerings left by the visitors’ precedent to Winterfell’s fall. Petyr tells Sansa of the events at the tussle at Harrenhal, where Rhaegar liquidated Ser Barriston Selmy, passed by his wife, and gave a crown of flowers blue as a frost to Lyanna. He then tells her that he has been called back to King’s Landing and keeping Cersei wait too much will not be wise. Petyr also tells her about his master plans that when Stannis Baratheon will inescapably take the North, he will need a Stark at Winterfell and he will announce Sansa as the Wardeness of the North. Even if Stannis failed to do so, Ramsay is inebriated with her, and so Sansa who learned to ply from the very best, can take control of House Bolton from within.

Sansa’s maid brings a message. Assuaging Sansa that she still has accomplice in the North, she tells Sansa to light a candle in the highest point of the Broken Tower is she is in trouble and need any help. As she was just wandering into the castle, she meets Myranda. Myranda puts a friendly veneer, talking to Sansa about her mother’s decease. Myranda takes Sansa to show her some things, when Sansa finds Reek, formerly Theon Greyjoy, in one of the corral. He wake up due to Sansa arrival and he shakes his head when she calls him Theon. He admonishes her that she should not be there. Seeing Theon in such a pitiable condition, Sansa furiously leaves from there.

While at dinner, Ramsay initially behaves very mannered toasting his wedding to Sansa, but soon shows his usual behavior by ordering Reek to apologize assassinating Rickon and Bran. With so much of difficulty, Reek at last apologizes. He then asks Reek to be one to give Sansa away at the wedding, as he was the closest thing Sansa has to a kin and Roose finally accepts the suggestion. Roose and Walda suddenly announce that Walda is pregnant which upsets Ramsay but makes Sansa happy.

On the night of her wedding, Myranda asks Sansa to not to bore Ramsay, and tells her about the outcome of Violet, Tansy and an unseen girl named Kyra who are murdered by Ramsay. When Myranda tells her that both Ramsay and Myranda killed Tansy by hunting her, Sansa furiously asks Myranda about how long she has been in love with Ramsay and does she seriously wants to marry Ramsay. She very easily tells her that she is a stark of Winterfell and she does not get terrified by such stories even if she is jeopardized by Myranda’s story. When Theon comes to take Sansa for the wedding, she refuses to hold Theon’s arm, even when he pleads her and tell her that Ramsay will punish him if she does not do so. Sansa only tells her that does she cares about Ramsay and pass by him. After the wedding in front of the Godswood, Ramsay takes her to the bedroom with Reek. Ramsay asks her to take off her clothes and when Reek tries to leave, he asks him to stay as he says,” You grew up with her as a girl, now watch her becoming a woman.” Sansa does not want to act according to him so Ramsay pushes her angrily on her bed and unbuckles his clothes. Sansa loyally remains still but starts sobbing softly. Reek is visibly perturbed and begins silently sobbing. Ramsay forces her every night over next few days leaving contusion on her arms and body, and she becomes the prisoner of the Boltons. Reek gives her breakfast and she tries to talk to him to get help. But Reek tells her that she is now wife of Ramsay and he can do whatever he wants to. Sansa tries to tell him that Ramsay hurts her every night and she could not be able to believe that Reek is admonishing her that he can. Sansa asks Reek what Ramsay did to him that he has now behaving so weirdly and tries to flee but Reek grabs her wrist and tells her that he had betrayed her family and starts apologizing. She tells him that he can again reinstate himself by lighting a candle at the Broken Tower. Sansa calls him as Theon and he repeats himself as he is Reek now. She tells him that he is Theon Greyjoy, the last surviving son of Balon Greyjoy. Ramsay tells Sansa that one day he wants to become the Ward of the North and Sansa will be the Wardeness but she admonishes him that he is the bastard son and Roose and Walda’s son will be the legitimized one. Then he replies her that even bastard son can go higher like her own bastard brother, Jon Snow who is now the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. Sansa steals a corkscrew when they were in the courtyard and Ramsay tells her that Reek told him about the candle. He asks to watch the dead body of that elderly maid who was trying to help her to flee. She is then ordered to go back to her chambers.

Sansa remains furious by the betrayal of Theon. When he comes to her chambers, she asks her why he did this and also killed Bran and Rickon, Theon then tells her about the torment he went through and also agrees that he deserved it for killing “those boys”. Sansa again loses her temper when he calls his brothers as “those boys”, and then Theon tells her that he had not killed them but two farm boys instead of them. She feels good after listening to this.

Overjoyed after listening that her brothers are still alive, she tries to escape from there during the battle between Stannis and Boltons. She lights the candle but Brienne and Podrick does not able to see it due to the distraction by Stannis ‘army. Sansa runs from there but finds Myranda and Theon in between.

Sansa Stark and Theon Greyjoy in Season 5

Myranda asks her to come with her or she will be killed, stretching an arrow at Sansa. When is about to release the arrow, Theon kills her and ask Sansa to come with him. Then and Sansa then flee from Winterfell by jumping off the side of Winterfell’s walls on the snow, hoping to survive.
