About Margaery Tyrell

Margaery Tyrell is one of the most important characters of Game of Thrones. She is very well played by Natalie Dormer. Margaery is the widow of Renly Baratheon. Mace Tyrell, her father is the ruler of the Reach. She is wed to Joffrey Baratheon after the Battle of Blackwater and becomes his queen but after Joffrey dies due to poison at their wedding feast, she is wed to Tommen Baratheon, Joffrey’s younger sibling. Margaery is recently arrested by Faith Militant for deception on Loras’s behalf and they stand trial.

Biography of Margaery Tyrell

Margaery is the girl of Lady Alerie Tyrell and Lord Mace Tyrell. The Reach is one of the constituent regions of the Seven Kingdoms. Margaery is raised in the regional capital of Highgarden.

She is pretty much close to Ser Loras Tyrell, he brother. She is also close to Sera Durwell and Mira Forrester, her handmaidens.

Margaery Tyrell in Season 2

Margaery is wed to King Renly Baratheon. Even after two weeks they haven’t accomplished their marriage. Renly camps his men at the Stormlands and organize a tournament for his followers. Margaery is seemed sad when Loras receives a huge defeat from Brienne of Tarth. Catelyn Stark comes to talk with Renly on behalf of Robb Stark, her son and Margaery greets her well. She looks sensible when she ask her to sleep with Loras.

Margaery Tyrell and Renly Baratheon in Season 2

Petyr Baelish, Master of Coin of Joffrey Baratheon comes to see Renly’s camp. He makes a point of annoying Margaery about Renly’s sexuality and she confirms her loyalty. Renly talks with Stannis, his brother but does not reach a compromise. Renly dies in mysterious circumstances and Brienne of Tarth is accused for it. Margaery succeeds in convincing Loras to escape from the camp with her before Stannis will arrive. Littlefinger leaves with them to the Highgarden.

Petyr dominates House Tyrell into siding with House Lannister. So House Lannister emerges victorious at the Battle of Blackwater.

To celebrate victory King Joffrey tells Loras he may ask anything of him in return of his help. He asks Joffrey to marry Margaery to concrete the new ally between their Houses through nuptials.

Margaery tells that she has heard about the courage of Joffrey and so she came to love him from far. He tells her that he has heard about her beauty but he is marrying Sansa Stark but gets convinced as Sansa’s family’s status as attainted conspirators is reason enough.

Margaery Tyrell in Season 3

Lady Margaery Tyrell with Joffrey comes back from the Sept of Baelor. She stops the cortege in Flea Bottom against the official protocol. Margaery steps out of the carriage and starts wandering the streets which stun Joffrey and guards. She goes inside an orphanage and starts talking to the children. Her servants distribute bread and toys. The same evening Joffrey and Cersei come to meet Margaery and Loras. Cersei seems unhappy with Margaery’s actions and warns her boldness. While the argument is going on, Joffrey defends Margaery and starts criticizing his mother. So Cersei realized quickly that she was on the verge of being outsmarted by the Tyrells.

Afterwards Margaery and Lady Olenna Tyrell invites Sansa at the private gardens of the King’s Landing. At the meeting, Lady Olenna calls her father Mace a fool because he supported Renly Baratheon. Lady Olenna asks Sansa to tell them about Joffrey as Margaery is going to wed to Joffrey. While Sansa was at first not comfortable in telling but later she tells that Joffrey was a Monster. Olenna seems disappointed but she was not stunned because she had heard all the rumors about Joffrey’s rage publicly. Sansa is worried that they should not cancel the marriage after listening to this but Olenna assured her that they will not cancel it.

Afterwards, Joffrey accompanies Margaery for a tour of the Great Sept of Baelor where there wedding is scheduled. They are followed by Lady Olenna and Cersei. While the journey goes on, Joffrey tells Margaery about the various Targaryen kings who are buried there. When Cersei and Olenna were totally engrossed in talking, Margaery succeeds in convincing Joffrey to greet the people. Having been somewhat mollified by Margaery’s charity, the crowd started cheering. Due to this, Cersei feels that she has lost control over Joffrey and so she asks Petyr Baelish to spy on Tyrells.

Ser Loras invites Sansa and Margaery to witness him while sparring him with the squire. During this time, Sansa praises Loras’ swordsmanship and expresses her wish to wed Loras. Margaery tells that once she will marry Joffrey, she will ask him about it. Sansa seems doubtful but Margaery is confident that Joffrey will let go Sansa after marrying her to please Margaery. Afterwards, Ser Loras engages in a sexual encounter with Olyvar, his squire. During the meeting, Loras very briefly mentions that he is going to wed Sansa. Loras didn’t know that Olyvar is spy, working for Littlefinger, who in turn reports to Cersei. So in return, Tywin Lannister arranged Cersei’s marriage to Loras and Tyrion’s to Sansa in order to control the ambitions of Tyrell’s and to boost the alliance between Tyrells and Lannisters.

Sansa seemed unhappy with the marriage, but Margaery Tyrell consoles Sansa that Tyrion is far better than any other Lannister and he will make her happy with his love making skills. Margaery also attends Sansa and Tyrion’s wedding.

At the wedding reception, Margaery tries to grovel herself with Cersei. Cersei tells her the story of Rains of Castamere. The reason behind telling her the story was to indicate that House Tyrell’s fate may also fall upon as that of the House Reyne. Cersei also admonishes her that if she ever calls her sister again, she will kill her by strangling her while sleeping.

Olenna helps Margaery in picking out a necklace for her upcoming marriage. Olenna throws the piece over the rampart and into the Blackwater Bay and asks the Tyrell handmaidens to ask every jeweler in King’s Landing for better one. After all went, Margaery arrogantly suggests her to let Joffrey select he necklace. Olenna warns her to mind what she says. They are soon interrupted by Brienne of Tarth, who comes there to speak about Renly’s demise. Brienne explains her how the shadow had Stannis Baratheon’s face and assures Margaery that she will definitely find a way to take revenge.

Margaery’s wedding accomplishes without any problem. At the wedding feast, Joffrey very cruelly talks about his uncle Tyrion.  Margaery tries to distract him. Everything comes to a halt, when Joffrey is poisoned and dies in front of Margaery.

When all are mourning, Margaery asks Olenna whether she is still the queen or not. Her grandmother asks her not to give stress on this now. She also tells her that Margaery is lucky that her third marriage will be easier than the first two. Margaery seems astonished but Olenna tells her that Lannisters need alliance desperately with the Tyrells.

Margaery comes to know that Olenna wanted to give back Highgarden before Tommen’s coronation. Olenna tells her that she should now handle the things herself. She also tells her that she allured Luther Tyrell to get out of the wedding with a Targaryen and asks her to move to Tommen when Cersei is distracted by Joffrey’s demise. She also tells Margaery that she should have never allowed marrying that beast, telling her indirectly that she only killed Joffrey,

The same night, Margaery sneaks into Tommen’s chamber. She confabulates about the rumors’ of their wedding and talks to his cat Ser Pounce in a very friendly manner. Margaery tells him that they don’t have to live in Joffrey’s fear now. Tommen agrees when Margaery asks him whether she could come and meet him in secret. She kisses him on his forehead and leaves.

Margaery in mourning clothes witnesses Tommen’s coronation from the side gallery. Cersei comes to her and starts conversing. Cersei asks Margaery that whether she still wants to be the queen to which Margaery replies that she haven’t thought about it yet. Cersei ignores the lie and says Tommen will need someone to enlighten him and so Tywin and Cersei set the date of Tommen and Margaery’s wedding.

Margaery is seen present at the trial of Tyrion Lannister with her father and brother. She knew that Tyrion is not guilty and so seen displeased at the proceedings. Margaery remained silent throughout the trial.

Margaery Tyrell in Season 5

Margaery with lords and ladies from the Seven Kingdoms stands on the Great Sept of Baelor as Cersei comes to mourn the demise of Tywin Lannister, her father. During the reception, Cersei notifies Margaery holding the hand of Tommen. Afterwards Margaery interrupts Loras as he is dormant with Olyvar. She asks to leave Olyvar. Loras is confused with the relaxed attitude of Margaery as Tywin’s demise means Cersei may not wed to Loras and be sent to Highgarden. Margaery tells him that it is not the case.

Even after Cersei does not like, Margaery and Tommen wed to each other. The same night they accomplish their marriage. They start confabulating about their future. Margaery succeeds in convincing Tommen that the time she will be in King’s Landing, she will treat her like his mother. When Tommen talks about this to Cersei, she concludes that this is all done by Margaery and so she went to talk to her. Greeting her new mother-in-law, Margaery seems more confident and even starts dressing like Cersei Lannister. Seeing herself loosing, Cersei went back.

Afterwards, Margaery seems infuriated when Loras, her brother is arrested by Faith Militant. She accosts Tommen, who tells her that Cersei was not responsible for his arrest and there is no way to liberate Loras without bloodshed. She decides to write up to her grandmother, Olenna.

Olenna arrives soon and speaks with Margaery sharing her belief that Cersei is the only mastermind behind her brother’s arrest. Margaery is called to testify at the time of Loras’ Holy Inquest and she denies the charges against Loras. Olyvar is also called to testify, clearly showing that Cersei has instructed her. He agrees to the charges against Loras. Margaery is also arrested by the High Sparrow for giving false statement and horrifyingly dragged from the room.

Margaery Tyrell in Season 5

Margaery is kept in a chamber beneath the Sept of Baelor. Cersei comes to meet her and bring her dinner and offer condolences. Margaery angrily shouts at Cersei to leave and throws bowl of stew and calls her a hateful bitch. The High Sparrow tells Cersei that both Loras and Margaery are going to stand for the trial.
